New Base: Blue Texel | Fibre Sourced in Loughguile, Northern Ireland

Blue Texel

It is my pleasure to introduce one of my new limited edition bases to you that will be in the next shop update on 17th November, 8:00pm GMT.

It’s 100% Blue Texel sourced from Loughguile, near Ballymena in Northern Ireland. I took the chance to overdye some of this beautiful fibre with natural dyes, and achieved a really nice range of heathery muted, saturated colours. It’s woollen spun base, spun at a family run mill in Wales.

On the tag is an illustration of the Crannog at Lissanoure Castle which is in Loughguile. A crannog is a man made fortification that is usually in the middle of a lake, and were being constructed in the iron age, and early christian periods. I have always found them really interesting structures, since I seen the crannog that sits atop Fairhead in Ballycastle. They are worth some research, if you are interested in that sort of thing!

The yarn is surprisingly not prickly, but has lots of bounce and structure. Perfect for a sweater or shawl.
