Ullan Knit Retreat
Kate (@kate_hawthorncottagecraft) and I are very excited to announce that we are hosting our very first knitting retreat in 2019, in Northern Ireland.
It will be held from 1-3rd November 2019 in Drumalis Retreat Centre in Larne- along the Causeway Coast- the perfect starting point for a tour of the scenic coastline.
This is a retreat for those who would like to take time out to consider how their making has an impact on themselves and the world around them.
Our sessions will be taken by Aidan Owen (@knittingmonk) who will be coming all the way from the Hudson Valley in New York to help us to reflect on how our making can be thoughtful and mindful. You can check out his podcast here.
Throughout the weekend there will be lots of chances to take time out, to relax and to reflect on what Aidan has talked about.
Craft as Contemplation
If one definition of contemplation is a “long, loving look at the Real," then certainly our fibre arts practices are one way of engaging the contemplative life. Over time, contemplating through craft will lead us to a slower, simpler, more understated, and more whole sense of self and world. By exploring and engaging the deeper meaning of our crafts, we can come to a truer sense of who we are. This retreat will offer the opportunity to settle into a craftful and contemplative space and to engage deeper questions of meaning for ourselves and our fiber arts practices, all while connecting with other fiber enthusiasts. Themes will include the sacredness of creation, rootedness and a sense of place, and rest. Hopefully, we will come to see our crafts as ways to become more fully human and more fully alive!
